1SG Steven Sonnen

First Sergeant Steven D. Sonnen is a native of Niagara Falls, NY. He entered service as a Trumpet Player in the Army Band Program in October, 1984. He completed Basic training at Fort Jackson, SC and Advanced Individual training at the US Army School of Music, Virginia Beach, VA. He also served as an Infantryman in the New York and Florida Army National Guard.

1SG Sonnen has held numerous positions throughout his career, including Squad Leader, Section Leader, Weapons Squad Leader, Team Leader, Operations Supervisor, Training Supervisor, Logistics Supervisor, Group Leader, Platoon Sergeant, and First Sergeant.

His assignments have included: 84th Army Band, Stuttgart, Germany; 10th Mountain Division Band, Fort Drum, NY; 2/108 IN, NYARNG, Fort Drum, NY; 2/124 IN, FLARNG, Leesburg, FL; 24th Infantry Division Band, Fort Stewart, GA; 82nd Airborne Division Band, Fort Bragg, NC; 2nd Infantry Division Band, Camp Red Cloud, Korea, and currently serves as the First Sergeant for the 25th Infantry Division Band, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

1SG Sonnen is a graduate of the Primary Leadership Development Course, Basic and Advanced Noncommissioned Officer Course, Basic Airborne Course, Jumpmaster Course, Air Movement Operations Course, and the Air Assault Course.

He holds an Associate Degree from Saint Leo University and is pursuing a Bachelor Degree in Computer Science from Franklin University.

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (2nd Award), the Meritorious Service Medal (3rd Award), Army Commendation Medal (4th Award), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal (9th Award), Army Good Conduct Medal (8th Award), National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, Korean Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Bronze Star, Iraq Campaign Medal with two Bronze Stars, Global War on Terror Expeditionary and Service Medals, Humanitarian Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (Numeral 3), NATO Medal, Air Assault Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, and Canadian Parachutist Badge.
