CW5 Joseph Roland is currently serving as both the Chief Warrant Officer of the Brigade (CWOB) and the Standardization Instructor Pilot for the 25th Combat Aviation Brigade, 25th Infantry Division, Hawaii. He entered the Marine Corps in 1986, attending basic training in Paris Island, SC. Upon completion of basic training he served for 6 years as a UH-1N crewchief and AH-1W repairer. In 1992 he was selected to attend Warrant Officer Candidate School and Initial Entry Rotary Wing flight training at Ft. Rucker, Alabama. He graduated initial flight training in 1993 as a Commandant's List Graduate and was selected to attend UH60 Blackhawk qualification training.
His previous assignments include Battalion and Company Standardization Officer, 2nd BN, 25th Combat Aviation Brigade, Hawaii; Company Instructor Pilot, 3rd BN, 158th Aviation Regiment, 12th Aviation Brigade, Giebelstadt Germany; UH60 pilot in Command and Flight Lead, 2nd BN , 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade, Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia; UH60 Pilot in Command, 4th BN, 501st Aviation Regiment, Camp Page, Korea; UH Pilot, Combat Aviation Training Brigade (CATB), Ft. Hood, Texas.
His combat deployments include; Operation Enduring Freedom, Kandahar, Afghanistan (2004, 2012); Operation Iraqi Freedom and New Dawn, Tikrit, Iraq (2007, 2009).
Awards and decorations include the; Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star Medal (3), Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal (5) with Valor (2), Army Commendation Medal (6) with Valor (1), Army Achievement Medal (5), Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal (3), Iraqi Campaign (2), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary (1) and Service ( 1), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (4), Air Assault Badge, Combat Action Badge and Master Aviator Badge.
CW5 Roland is happily married to the former Kathleen Jude Redding and has three beautiful children Joe, Nicole and Sean.
