RELEASE NUMBER 2001-04-05
Army to implement stricter access control
SCHOFIELD BARRACKS -- The Department of the Army has directed increased access control to Army installations. This directive will enhance security and improve force protection on all Army installations nationwide to include housing areas. Here in Hawaii, Army personnel will enhance security measures by increasing the manning of the gates throughout U.S. Army, Hawaii. Long-term plans include the construction of additional access control measures including closed circuit television and other monitoring devices.
Military police augmented by other Army personnel will implement increased access control measures beginning May 11. Vehicles entering Army installations must have a Department of Defense Decal or a temporary pass to gain entrance. During the months of April and May, vehicles without a Department of Defense decal will be allowed on Army installations but they will be stopped briefly at the gate while the occupant is informed of the increased access control measures. Vehicle operators will be provided information on how and where to obtain a decal. After the initial implementation period, occupants of vehicles without a DOD decal will have to stop at the gate and be logged in before entering the installation.
Vehicle registration offices are located at Schofield Barracks, Fort Shafter and Tripler Army Medical Center. Individuals must present a DOD identification card, valid drivers license, vehicle registration, state safety inspection, and proof of insurance to obtain a DOD vehicle decal.
Individuals who do not possess a DOD identification card, but require frequent access to the installation should contact the points of contact listed below, the vehicle registration, office or the appropriate contracting officer representative for information on obtaining a temporary pass.
Requirements for a temporary pass are the same as for a DOD decal less the DOD identification card.
The vehicle registration office at Schofield Barracks is located in Building 3010 on Lyman Road adjacent to the Provost Marshal Office. The hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, and noon to 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The vehicle registration office at Fort Shafter is located in the Aloha Center, Building S330 near the child care facility. It is open 9 a.m. to noon and 1 - 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. The vehicle registration office at Tripler Army Medical Center is located in room 3G-104. It is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
This increased access control will not prevent the public from using recreation facilities such as clubs and golf courses. Nor will it prevent access to special events such as the 4th of July spectacular or the Twilight Tattoo.
For more information please call Capt. Kathy Turner, Schofield Barracks Provost Marshal Office at 655-2169/0683, or Mr. Dennis Morris, Fort Shafter Provost Marshal Office at 438-8012.
