Schofield Barracks Farewells General
SCHOFIELD BARRACKS -- Schofield Barracks farewells Brig. Gen. Karl W. Eikenberry with a Flying V ceremony, 4 p.m., May 8 on Sills Field here.
Eikenberry, a native of Hammond, Ind., and a graduate of the United States Military Academy in 1973, will depart for the Pentagon, Washington D.C., where he will be the deputy director for plans, policy and strategy.
Eikenberry served as the assistant division commander (support) for the 25th Infantry Division (Light) and U.S. Army, Hawaii, from Sep. 2000 to May 2001.
The ceremony will showcase all battalion and company commanders with their official unit colors. The Flying V includes an inspection of troops, a tradition dating back to the Roman Empire. Maj. Gen. James M. Dubik is the host commander.
Prior to the ceremony, Eikenberry will receive the Legion of Merit medal and his wife Ching will receive the Outstanding Civilian Service award.
The 25th Infantry Division (Light) Tropic Lightning Band will participate in the ceremony, which is open to the public.
