Housing Services Office (HSO):The Housing Services Office(HSO) is available to assist incoming military and DOD civilians on orders with off-post housing needs. Click here to visit the HSO website. HSO maintains a rental database of approximately 1000 units on a daily basis. For your convenience, rental listings are also available at the Fort Shafter and Schofield Barracks Housing Offices. HSO also provides in-depth new arrival briefings, area maps, transportation to view prospective rentals, assistance with appointments to view properties, lease negotiation, mediation between landlord and tenants, and check-in or out inspections upon request. The cost of a rental in Hawaii is higher than on the mainland, and landlords require a security deposit equal to one month's rent prior to move-in.
