Brigadier General Todd B. McCaffrey is a native of Hudson, Ohio. He was commissioned in the infantry following graduation from the United States Military Academy in 1986. His military and civilian education includes the Infantry Officer's Basic and Advanced Courses, the Command and General Staff College, and the United States Army War College. He holds Masters Degrees in National Security Studies from the Army War College and in Economics from the Colorado School of Mines, Golden, Colorado.
Brigadier General McCaffrey initially served with 1st Battalion, 87th Infantry at Fort Drum, New York as a rifle and anti-tank leader platoon leader, company executive officer, and assistant battalion operations officer. Following the Advanced Course Brigadier General McCaffrey served the first of what has become four assignments with the 25th Infantry Division starting off as a Battalion Personnel Officer, Company Commander in 1st Battalion, 14th Infantry, and then as the Aide de Camp to the Commanding General , deploying in that position from Schofield Barracks, Hawaii to Operation Uphold Democracy in Haiti.
Following graduate school in Colorado and the Command and General Staff College, BG McCaffrey served as a Battalion and then Brigade Operations Officer in 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry and 2nd Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Departing Fort Campbell, he served as a Special Operations Program Analyst with the US Special Operations Command at MacDill Air Force Base, Florida.
Brigadier General McCaffrey commanded 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, at Fort Lewis, Washington, leading the battalion through its transformation into a Stryker Infantry Battalion and a combat deployment to Iraq. Following attendance at the Army War College, he returned to Schofield Barracks and the 25th Infantry Division, assuming command of 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team and led it during the brigade's 15 month combat deployment to Baghdad, Iraq from 2007-2009. After brigade command he served as the Deputy Chief of Staff, G-357 at US Army Pacific, Fort Shafter, Hawaii.
He was assigned to the Army Staff in January 2011 as the Executive Officer to the Director of the Army Staff. Following his promotion to Brigadier General he served two years as the Army's Director of Training on the Army Staff at the Pentagon. He now serves as the 25th Infantry Division Deputy Commanding General- Support.
Brigadier General McCaffrey wears the Combat and Expert Infantry Badges, the Ranger tab, Airborne and Air Assault Badges, and the Army Staff Badge along with a range of military awards including the Distinguished Service Medal, two awards of the Legion of Merit, three awards of the Bronze Star Medal, and the Valorous Unit Award (1st Bn,5th Infantry Regt; Nineveh Iraq)
Brigadier General McCaffrey has been married to his wife Lisa for over 22 years. They have three children, Michael (19), Sara (18), and Andrew (14).
