LTC Dave Zinn
Lieutenant Colonel Dave Zinn is from Clarksburg, West Virginia and was commissioned as an Armor officer in 1995. His first assignment was the 3rd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment at Fort Carson, CO, where he served as a Tank Platoon Leader, Scout Platoon Leader, and Troop Executive Officer. After the Advanced Course, he reported to 2nd Brigade, 4th Infantry Division at Fort Hood, TX, where he served as the Brigade Planner and commander of Bravo Company, 3rd Battalion, 67th Armored Regiment. He later commanded Hotel Troop, 10th Cavalry (Brigade Reconnaissance Troop) and deployed to Ba'Qubah, Iraq as part of Operations Iraqi Freedom. Following Advanced Civil Schooling, he served on the faculty at the United States Military Academy. After graduating from the Command and General Staff College, he reported to the 3rd Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, NC. He served as the Squadron Executive Officer of 5th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment and then the 3rd Brigade Executive Officer, including deployment to Eastern Baghdad and Ma'dain Province. He returned to Iraq as the Aide-de-Camp to the III Corps Commander during Operation New Dawn and most recently served as the Aide-de-Camp to the Commanding General of Training and Doctrine Command.
LTC Zinn earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from the United States Military Academy and a Master of Science Degree from the University of Chicago. His military education includes the Armor Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, the Command and General Staff College, the Scout Platoon Leader Course, and Jumpmaster School.
LTC Zinn's awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal (with oak leaf cluster), the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (two oak leaf clusters), the Army Commendation Medal (with oak leaf cluster), the Army Achievement Medal (two oak leaf clusters), the Combat Action Badge, Ranger Tab, and Parachutist Badge.
LTC Zinn is married to the former Melissa Vance from Seattle, Washington; they have four children: daughter Erin (10), and sons Jamie (8), Micah (5), and Seth (1).
