LTC Ryan O'Connor

LTC O’Connor graduated The Virginia Military Institute in 1996 and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Infantry. Upon completion of the Infantry Officer Basic Course, he was assigned to Fort Campbell, Kentucky, where he served as a Rifle Platoon Leader, Company Executive Officer, and HHC Executive officer in 3rd Battalion, 502nd Infantry, as well as Assistant S3 and Training Officer, 2nd Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (AASLT).

Upon completion of the Infantry Officer Advanced Course in 2001, LTC O’Connor was assigned as a planner in the Directorate of Training, 7th Army and US Army Europe, in Grafenwoehr, Germany. A year later, he was reassigned to the 173d Airborne Brigade in Vicenza, Italy, where he served as the Brigade Training Officer and then Assistant S3. He then moved to 1st Battalion (Airborne) 508th Infantry, where he served as the Assistant S3 and then an Airborne Rifle Company Commander.

After graduating The Defense Language Institute in 2007, LTC O’Connor served as the Assistant Army Attaché, US Embassy, Mexico City, before attending Command and General Staff College, at Fort Leavenworth Kansas. In 2009 he was assigned to 1st Battalion, 17th Infantry, 5/2 SBCT, as the Battalion S3 and then Battalion XO. He subsequently served as the BCT S3 and then BCT XO for the re-flagged 2nd Brigade 2nd Infantry Division (SBCT), at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. Before being assigned to the 25th Infantry Division, LTC O’Connor served as the Infantry Majors’ Career Manager and Assignment Officer, US Army Human Resources Command, at Fort Knox, Kentucky. Since September, he has served in the Division G3.

His three combat deployments include two with the 173d Airborne Brigade: Iraq 2003-2004, as the Assistant S3; and Afghanistan 2005-2006, as a Company Commander. He returned to Afghanistan with 5/2 SBCT, 2009-2010, as a BN S3 and then XO.

LTC O’Connor is a graduate of the Infantry Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, Combined Arms and Services Staff School, Command and General Staff College, as well as the Airborne, Air Assault, and Ranger schools.

LTC O’Connor is married to the former Erin Exten. They have four children: Evan (7), Catherine (5), Lily (3), and Emma (1).
