CSM Hai H. Dang


Command Sergeant Major Hai H. Dang was born in Saigon, Vietnam. At the conclusion of the Vietnam conflict, he immigrated to the United States in 1975 and enlisted in the Army in October 1982. He received Basic and Advanced Individual Training under One Station Unit Training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma and graduated as a 13B Cannon Crewmember in February 1983. Command Sergeant Major Dang has served in numerous positions in the Artillery field from powder man to Command Sergeant Major. Sergeant Major Dang's assignments include 2nd Battalion, 8th Field Artillery, 7th Infantry Division (Light); 1st Battalion, 39th Field Artillery, 18th Airborne Corp; 1st Battalion, 22nd Field Artillery later redesignated as 2nd Battalion, 1st Field Artillery, 1st Armor Division (Mech); 1st Battalion, 34th Infantry Regiment as a Drill Sergeant; 1st Battalion, 8th Field Artillery, 25th Infantry Division (Light); 3rd Battalion, 29th Field Artillery, 4th Infantry Division (Mech); 1st Battalion, 7th Field Artillery, 1st Infantry Division (Mech); 2nd and 4th Battalion, 320th Field Artillery Regiment, 101st Airborne Division (AASLT); 18th Field Artillery Brigade; 1st, 9th Field Artillery, 3rd Infantry Division (Mech) and the 5th Battlefield Coordination Detachment.

Command Sergeant Major Dang's military education includes NCOES from Primary Noncommissioned Officer Course to the United States Army Sergeants Major Course (Class #56). He is also a graduate of NBC School, Hazardous Material Course, Training Development Course, Master Fitness Course, NCO Retention Course, United States Army Drill Sergeant School, Airborne School, Pathfinder School, Light Leader Course, Rappel Master Course, Air Assault School, First Sergeant's Course, and Battle Staff Course. Sergeant Major Dang has a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Liberal Studies from Excelsior College and an Associate's Degree from University of Maryland.

Command Sergeant Major Dang's awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Humanitarian Service Medal, Kosovo Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, NATO Service Medal, Drill Sergeant Identification Badge, Combat Action Badge, Air Assault Badge, Parachutist Badge, Pathfinder Badge and German Parachutist Badge. Sergeant Major Dang is also a recipient of the Order of Saint Barbara.
