CPT Christopher P. Townsend
CPT Christopher P. Townsend was born at Langley AFB, Virginia on 26 March 1976. He entered the Army in July 1996 as a Network Switching Systems Operator Maintainer (31/25F). He graduated Officer Candidate School (OCS) at Fort Benning, Georgia and earned a commission as a Second Lieutenant, Signal Corps, on 17 September 2004.
CPT Townsend was first stationed at Fort Huachuca with the 40th Signal Battalion of the 11th Signal Brigade. There he served as an Echelons Above Corps Switch Operator/Supervisor. In 1998 He was selected as the Army Signal Command and US Forces Command Soldier of the Year. With the 40th he deployed in support of Operation Desert Fox/Southern Watch/Intrinsic Action. CPT Townsend transitioned to the Army Reserve in 2000 while he finished his degree. He reentered active duty in April 2004 to attend OCS. In February 2005, CPT Townsend took over 1st Platoon, 385th Signal Company as the Platoon Leader in Kuwait. After a year in Kuwait, he was selected for an assignment with the Defense Information Systems Agency-Pacific (DISA-PAC) as a Watch Officer for the Pacific portion of the Global Information Grid (GIG). During his tenure, he was recognized with the General Douglas MacArthur Leadership award. In 2007, CPT Townsend moved to the Plans and Exercise Division at US Pacific Command as a Communications Systems Planner. He also served as an action officer for the CDR HQUSPACOM’s Deployable Joint Command and Control (DJC2) suite. He commanded Bravo Company, 45th STB at Schofield Barracks and deployed them to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. After command, CPT Townsend served as the assistant S3 for the 45th Sustainment Brigade Rear Detachment and the 45th Special Troops Battalion.
CPT Townsend’s military education includes the Basic Combat Training, Network Switching Systems Operator/Maintainer Course, Primary Leadership Development Course, Officer Candidate School, and Signal Officer Basic Course. He holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree from the University of Phoenix, in Information Technology: Networks and Telecommunications.
His awards and decorations include the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal (with 1 OLC), the Army Achievement Medal (with 3 OLC), the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and Service Medals, the Good Conduct Medal, the Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, and Overseas Service Ribbon.
CPT Townsend is married to the former Beverly Locklin of Brewton, Alabama. They have two children: Rebecca, age 13 and Christopher II age 12.
